Voter Information

  • On May 19, 2026, District residents will have the opportunity to vote on:

    • the school district's proposed budget for the 2026-2027 school year 
    • a bus purchase proposition
    • candidates for the Board of Education (three vacancies)

    To vote you must be:

    • A permanent resident of the district for at least 30 days immediately prior to the vote
    • 18 years of age or older
    • A U.S. citizen
    • Registered with the school district or the Dutchess/Putnam County Board of Elections (depending on county of residence)
  • If you are registered to vote in local or national elections, you are automatically registered to vote in school district elections.  However, if you have not voted in the past four years, your voter registration may be marked inactive, and you may be required to re-register to vote.  

    You may register in the Office of the District Clerk, located at 25 Corporate Park Drive, Hopewell Junction, Monday through Friday (excluding holidays) between 8:30am to 4:00pm until Thursday, May 14, 2026. Registration is for new residents or residents who have not voted in a Wappingers CSD school election in the past four years. Proof of residency will be required, such as a driver’s license, non-driver identification card, or utility bill. 

    Please note: registration with the District Clerk is only for school district elections. You may also register with the Dutchess/Putnam County Board of Elections for all elections:

    Registration forms are available on the County Board of Elections websites for mailing or delivering to the appropriate Board of Elections or by submitting an on-line application for voter registration with the Department of Motor Vehicles at: DMV's Electronic Voter Registration Application

  • Eligible voters now have two options to vote by mail.

    • Early Mail Ballot – registered voters requesting an early mail ballot do not need to supply a reason why they cannot appear in person at the polls on election day
    • Absentee Ballot – registered voters unable to vote in person can complete an application to receive an absentee ballot only if the voter meets the criteria as indicated in Section I of the application

    An application must be completed before a ballot can be issued to the voter or designee. After the District Clerk receives your Early Mail or Absentee Ballot Application, you will be mailed/given the actual ballot to cast your vote.

    Question:  How do I receive an early mail or absentee ballot application?

    Answer: 

    1. Print the application linked below and mail it to the District Clerk.  The application must bear the voter’s original hand signature.  Electronic signature will not be accepted.  You may scan the signed application to the District Clerk at alberta.pedro@wcsdny.org or by fax to 845-896-1693.     
    1. Applications may also be requested by calling the District Clerk at 845-298-5000 ext. 40145 and request to have it mailed to you.
    2. Applications are available between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. at the WCSD District Office, 25 Corporate Park Drive, Hopewell Junction, NY, where you may complete the application in-person and receive a ballot the same day.

    Question:  What is the timeline to request and return an early mail or absentee ballot application?

    Answer:    

    • Early Mail or Absentee Ballot Applications must be received by the District Clerk no earlier than April 20, 2026.
    • To have a ballot mailed to you, we must receive your application by May 12, 2026.  
    • If you plan to pick up your ballot in person, we need your application by May 18, 2026

    Question:  What is the timeline to return an early mail or absentee ballot?

    Answer:   

    • All ballots must be received by the District Clerk no later than 5:00 p.m. on the day of the vote – May 19, 2026.       
    • Voters may mail ballots to the District Clerk at the address listed below or ballots may be dropped off at the District Office during normal business hours (8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.) and until 5:00 p.m. on May 19, 2026.

  • If you wish to register as a military voter with the District only, please complete the Military Voter Registration Application:  

    Registered military voters may submit an application for a military ballot. Please complete the Application for Military Ballot:

    Return the completed applications by email to the District Clerk at: alberta.pedro@wscdny.org 

    Application for registration and ballots must be received by the District Clerk by no later than 5:00 p.m. on the 26th day before the election (April 23, 2026).  

    Military ballots must be returned by mail and received by the District Clerk no later than 5:00 p.m. on election day (May 19, 2026).
