By providing instruction and support to students whose primary language is not English, we help students develop the language skills needed for academic success and full participation in school and society. We work to ensure that all students have equitable access to educational opportunities, regardless of their language background.

• Language Development Instruction: ENL teachers provide specialized instruction in English language development, focusing on listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. Instruction is typically aligned with both state standards and English proficiency guidelines.
• Cultural Support: The department often helps bridge cultural differences, assisting students in adjusting to their new academic and social environments. This includes celebrating diversity and providing a culturally responsive curriculum.
• Assessment and Placement: The department is responsible for assessing the English proficiency of incoming students and placing them in appropriate levels of support. This includes regular monitoring of students’ progress and adjusting services as needed.

• Compliance and Reporting: The ENL department ensures that the school district complies with federal and state laws related to English learners, such as providing the required services under the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) and submitting necessary reports on student progress and program effectiveness.
