Learning is a gift that all children deserve to receive, no mater their background, culture, etc. In order to reach the minds of all, I believe a teacher needs to be flexible and strive to make a difference in each and every child's life. By differentiating instruction and taking time to really get to know a student, teachers can give each student the education they deserve.

Teaching. I believe it is important to teach in a style that all students can benefit and progress from. I incorporate the Gradual Release of Responsibility Model where students are able to vocalize ideas in the whole group setting, learn from each other in smaller groups, and then show what they have learned through independent work. Students are great teachers and giving them the opportunity to work together is very influential. The workshop model is implemented daily in my classroom and students are given a variety of ways to learn through manipulatives, hands-on learning, spiral review, and technology. Inquiry-based learning is also applied which helps the students to stay engaged by learning through their own investigations. Having the teacher act as a guide may be more beneficial for some student and this method can assist with increasing their desire to learn. All students are different and learn differently, so I believe it is important to incorporate a variety of teaching styles within my lessons.

Environment. Having a comfortable and safe learning environment is crucial to promoting positive learning. A smile can go a long way. My classroom is always an open door to all students, and I make myself available to help them in any way I can. The students' attitude towards learning is a huge factor in how much they will learn, and I want to encourage my students to love learning by making it fun and exciting for them. Having the students excited for a lesson and for them to look forward to school is very important to me.

Family. Learning does not stop once "the final bell rings." Learning is an act that is happening every minute of every day. Parents must be aware of what is happening at school in order to give the support needed at home. I believe parent-teacher communication is essential for students to have a successful education. I enjoy having parent communication and feel it is important to keep parents updated with their child's progress, behaviors, etc.
