The medical director is now instructed to take into consideration the height, weight, muscle mass, and Tanner staging as compared to the other athletes he/she would compete. This language allows a physician to use their professional judgment taking into account the totality of the student’s overall physical development. The Tanner Staging is required; however the Tanner rating in the APP document is only a recommended number. The medical director reviews the information gathered from the physical, student’s physical size and the Tanner Staging.
