Effective for the 2015-16 school year and beyond, New York State Department of Education has changed the Selection Classification process and name. The new regulation is now titled Athletic Placement Process or (APP). The complete packet explaining the process can be downloaded below.
If you have a 7th or 8th grader that would like to tryout for a Freshman, JV, or Varsity team, the recommendation must come from the coach of that team. There are timelines and paperwork that must be completed as well. For more information, please click the link below:

Clarification Regarding Maturity Assessment and Tanner Staging:
The Athletic Placement Process (APP) Maturity Assessment Standards are as follows. The medical director is now instructed to take into consideration the height, weight, muscle mass, and Tanner staging as compared to the other athletes he/she would compete with. This language allows a physician to use their professional judgment, taking into account the totality of the student’s overall physical development. The Tanner Staging is required; however, the Tanner rating in the APP document is only a recommended number. The medical director reviews the information gathered from the physical, student’s physical size and the Tanner Staging. They then render a decision on whether or not, in their professional opinion, the student is at an appropriate developmental level to compete with other athletes in the desired sport and level of competition.
