    Hello OV Community,

I want to share the DOH Document that will guide you through whether or not to send your child to school, what the school needs to do if your child is sick, and how to have your child return once healthy.

    DOH Document

As we get closer to our scheduled start date for hybrid learning, I will provide more information, including cohorts, schedules, etc.

    Be well and stay safe!

  • First Day of School 2020

Posted by Laura Distefano on 9/9/2020

    Dear OV Community,

As we begin our academic journey remotely for the time being, I wanted to pass along my excitement and encouragement for the new school year!  Students’ schedules are available on the parent portal.  Prior to September 10, teachers will email students access to each class’s Google Classroom.  Our first day of school is September 10, and we are so excited to see our OV family, albeit through a screen.  Make sure students use their WCSD email for all Google Classroom work.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at laura.distefano@wcsdny.org

  • A Unique Welcome

Posted by Laura Distefano on 8/18/2020

    Dear OV Community,,

On behalf of the Orchard View Alternative High School faculty and staff, allow me to welcome you back to what will be a truly unique school year!  Whether we are operating as a virtual school, or a hybrid version, please know that the faculty and staff at OV are committed to providing our students with the best possible learning environment, while supporting their social/emotional needs.  While there are many unknowns at this time, the one thing that has always remained constant is the grit and determination of OV students, faculty, and staff.  I have no doubt that we will overcome any adversity this school year brings us.

I will be in touch via the Blackboard Messaging System in the coming weeks as information unfolds regarding the beginning of the school year.  I look forward to working with both students and parents/guardians throughout the 2020-2021 school year!

    ~Ms. D.

Attendance

  • Orchard View Alternative High School

    Attendance Action Plan

The vision of Orchard View Alternative High School is to create a supportive, academic environment where students value hard work, and individual goals are achieved.  Orchard View students learn to make positive choices that enable them to take an active role in their education and future career.

Of course one of the positive choices we expect them to make is their choice to come to school each and every day.  Student attendance is taken extremely seriously at Orchard View Alternative High School.  We recognize the direct correlation between daily attendance and its significant impact on student learning.  We support a diverse group of learners who all have a unique story to tell.   Every student has chosen to come to OV for the same reason: to have a chance to become a successful high school graduate.

Here are some of the attendance intervention strategies that we typically implement in our school:

Tip Line

  • Wappingers CSD is now using Anonymous Alerts®

The Anonymous Alerts® reporting app was created to help students, parents or community members choose a school official to contact, type of incident to report, school building and/or a specific location, set a priority level of normal or high and upload a photo, screenshot or video related to the incident.  This reporting system is meant to allow for anonymous reporting but still provides for District and Building Administrators to respond (via the app) to the person who submitted a tip to the District.

If you plan on submitting an alert anonymously please be sure to check the "message center" in the application itself to see any responses to your tip, or requests from District Officials for additional information.

The purpose of the app is for members of our school and community to report suspicious activity, bullying or student-related concerns to a school administrator. For all other reports, please contact your child's school directly. If you feel the need to keep this submission anonymous that is OK, we completely respect your right to privacy and appreciate you making us aware.
