  • New Schedule Beginning 2/8/21

Posted by Laura Distefano on 2/5/2021

    Hi OV,

Since the end of Holiday Break, we have noticed that our buses have been arriving earlier, which is terrific!  This means that we can add more instructional time to the day for all students, both remote and in-person. Please see the new schedule by clicking the link below.

    New OV Schedule 2/8/21

Based on the current numbers of hybrid students, OV students will still have the opportunity to come to school all four days, regardless of cohort.  Please understand that this opportunity to combine cohorts is based on Orchard View’s current hybrid numbers being consistent with social distancing requirements.  This plan may change based on an increase of hybrid students and/or COVID-19 related circumstances.

Students' health and safety will always be my number one priority as the leader of OV.  I will be working with our school nurse, the District Senior Administrators, and the Dutchess County Department of Health to make sure our students are learning in the healthiest, safest environment possible.  Please communicate with our school nurse as soon as possible if a case of COVID-19 is suspected within your household.  If you have any concerns regarding the health and safety of your student, please do not hesitate to reach out.

    Be well and stay safe!

    ~Ms. D.

  • OV Stands By You!

Posted by Laura Distefano on 4/3/2020

    Dear OV Family,

The Orchard View Faculty has been hard at work creating meaningful virtual learning environ`ments, and making plans to meet students’ academic, social, and emotional needs during this unprecedented time.  We recognize that our temporary reality is not ideal, especially for the OV community whose foundation is based on relationships. Please be assured that the OV faculty is here for you, and will do everything in our power to continue to support our students and their families.

Over the past week, the OV faculty and I have met several times over Google Hangouts to prepare to go “live” with our new learning environments.  Your teachers have been participating in their own virtual learning experience as they participated in professional development on the capabilities of Google Classroom.  Mrs. Califano and Mr. Palanca have been hard at work developing ways to meet your social/emotional needs from afar, while also compiling community resources to assist students and their families.

During my five years as the Principal of Orchard View, I cannot count the amount of instances I have seen our students rise and adapt to difficult situations.  There is no doubt in my mind, that our OV students will continue to be examples of resiliency, adaptability, and perseverance. Please remember your OV Family is still here and we stand ready to walk this difficult journey beside you.

If you have not done so already, please visit the District’s Emergency Response website at https://www.wappingersschools.org/Page/31106.  This website has a variety of resources, from both the District and the community.

    Thank you and be safe.

    Attendance Action Plan

The vision of Orchard View Alternative High School is to create a supportive, academic environment where students value hard work, and individual goals are achieved.  Orchard View students learn to make positive choices that enable them to take an active role in their education and future career.

Of course one of the positive choices we expect them to make is their choice to come to school each and every day.  Student attendance is taken extremely seriously at Orchard View Alternative High School.  We recognize the direct correlation between daily attendance and its significant impact on student learning.  We support a diverse group of learners who all have a unique story to tell.   Every student has chosen to come to OV for the same reason: to have a chance to become a successful high school graduate.

Here are some of the attendance intervention strategies that we typically implement in our school:

Tip Line

  • Wappingers CSD is now using Anonymous Alerts®

The Anonymous Alerts® reporting app was created to help students, parents or community members choose a school official to contact, type of incident to report, school building and/or a specific location, set a priority level of normal or high and upload a photo, screenshot or video related to the incident.  This reporting system is meant to allow for anonymous reporting but still provides for District and Building Administrators to respond (via the app) to the person who submitted a tip to the District.

If you plan on submitting an alert anonymously please be sure to check the "message center" in the application itself to see any responses to your tip, or requests from District Officials for additional information.

The purpose of the app is for members of our school and community to report suspicious activity, bullying or student-related concerns to a school administrator. For all other reports, please contact your child's school directly. If you feel the need to keep this submission anonymous that is OK, we completely respect your right to privacy and appreciate you making us aware.
