  • ELA Regents for ALL Enrolled in English 11

Posted by Laura Distefano on 1/2/2019

    Dear Parents/Guardians,

All Orchard View students enrolled in English 11 will be required to take the English Language Arts Regents Examination on January 22, 2019.  This is an incredible opportunity for our students to be exposed early to the material and structure of the exam in preparation for the June Regents, which will count as the students’ final exam grade.  Following this examination in January, the results will be used to determine and target specific interventions and lessons within the English 11 curriculum.  It is our intention to optimize student performance and assist each individual student to reach her/his full potential when they take English Language Arts Regents Examination in June 2019.

I have included a January Regents Examination schedule with this letter.  All Regents will be administered at Orchard View.  If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.

    ~Ms. D.

    Dear OV Community,

Our next Parent/Teacher/Student Organization (PTSO) meeting will be held on December 10th at 4pm at Orchard View.  We will be discussing the by-laws for our new PTSO, as well as electing officers.  In addition, our Student Council President will give an update on a number of great happenings at OV.  If you would like to be a part of the OV PTSO but cannot make the meeting in person, perhaps you could participate by phone.  I look forward to meeting with our PTSO and working with all of you for the benefit of the OV students!

    ~ Ms. D.

  • OV's New PTSO

Posted by Laura Distefano on 10/25/2018 12:25:00 PM

    Hello OV Community,

I am excited to announce that Orchard View is forming a Parent/Teacher/Student Organization (PTSO)!  Our first meeting will take place on Monday, October 29, at 4:00 at Orchard View. Our agenda will include fundraising, student trips, and long-term goals for our PTSO.

In regards to our Yard Sale Fundraiser, we have decided to postpone it to the spring due to the unpredictability of our fall weather.  Please continue to gather any unwanted items for our Spring OV Yard Sale.

I look forward to seeing you on October 29th at 4:00 for our first PTSO Meeting!

    ~Ms. D.

  • Welcome Back!

Posted by Laura Distefano on 8/28/2018

    Greetings OV Community,

On behalf of the Orchard View Alternative High School faculty and staff, allow me to welcome you back with enthusiasm!  I hope you join in my excitement for another amazing year at Orchard View!  This year promises to be filled with many academic journeys made successful through hard work and having a growth mindset.  Please remember that being present in school every day is an integral component of being a successful Orchard View student.

As part of the preparation for September, I am asking that parents/guardians fill out all forms and send them in with their students on the first day of school.  This will ensure that Orchard View has the most up-to-date information at the beginning of the new school year.  Students may give these forms to their first period teacher, or bring them to the Orchard View main office.

I look forward to working with both students and parents/guardians throughout the 2018-2019 school year!

    ~Ms. D.

    Attendance Action Plan

The vision of Orchard View Alternative High School is to create a supportive, academic environment where students value hard work, and individual goals are achieved.  Orchard View students learn to make positive choices that enable them to take an active role in their education and future career.

Of course one of the positive choices we expect them to make is their choice to come to school each and every day.  Student attendance is taken extremely seriously at Orchard View Alternative High School.  We recognize the direct correlation between daily attendance and its significant impact on student learning.  We support a diverse group of learners who all have a unique story to tell.   Every student has chosen to come to OV for the same reason: to have a chance to become a successful high school graduate.

Here are some of the attendance intervention strategies that we typically implement in our school:
