Welcome to WCSD Athletics!!
Athletics have had a significant influence on American culture and society and enjoys a unique status in the American value system. We believe that participation on an interscholastic athletic team is a worthwhile experience, which all students should have the opportunity to pursue. We take great pride in our athletic programs. We believe athletics is an integral part of the Wappingers Central School District educational program and have it organized to meet the needs and interests of our students.

Section One Executive Committee Delays Start of Low/Moderate Risk Winter Sports Memo
According to the New York State Education Department, students should plan to obtain the required health examination prior to participation in the winter or spring 2020-2021 sport seasons.
This means for Winter sport athletes, a physical exam dated January 1, 2020 or later must be uploaded to your Family ID account or on file in the nurse’s office. If you are unsure if your child requires an up-to-date physical, please contact your child’s Health Office and the School Nurse will check for you. If your child has a completed physical from a private physician please upload it onto FamilyID for approval by the school physician.
FamilyID open registration date is to be determined. A notification will be sent out when winter student athletes can register for their particular sport.
Important Athletic Information:
Concussion Management Law
The Concussion Management and Awareness Act has gone into effect on July 1, 2012 for all public schools and charter schools. The law requires schools to provide educational materials to parents and students. The Student and Parent Concussion Information sheet can be accessed by clicking on the link below.
The Athletic Placement Process (APP) Maturity Assessment Standards are as follows. The medical director is now instructed to take into consideration the height, weight, muscle mass, and Tanner staging as compared to the other athletes he/she would compete. This language allows a physician to use their professional judgment taking into account the totality of the student’s overall physical development. The Tanner Staging is required; however the Tanner rating in the APP document is only a recommended number. The medical director reviews the information gathered from the physical, student’s physical size and the Tanner Staging. They then render a decision on whether or not, in their professional opinion, the student is at an appropriate developmental level to compete with other athletes in the desired sport and level of competition.
