    Supplies Needed:

    Sketchbook- 81/2”x11” or larger, spiral or sewn binding- PLEASE NO TAPED BINDING AS THEY WILL FALL APART- It is worth investing in good paper (multi-media) for both wet and dry materials.

    Pencils with erasers- regular pencils are fine, but as advanced students you may want to begin a collection of drawing pencils

    Lidded plastic container, such as a ‘to go” container - 5x7 or larger- to be used as a palette.  Must be airtight.

    A completed user agreement form ASAP to your period 3 teacher

    A plan for a device (computer, smartphone etc.) with which you will complete assignments online.  If you do not own one, you need to arrange for public access to a device in order to complete work by the deadline.

    Other Helpful Materials:

    Students may want to begin a collection of quality materials such as a set of drawing pencils, graphite sticks, good quality drawing paper, paints and brushes, and a professional portfolio. None of these materials are required for class.

     

    Topics to be covered:

    A deeper investigation of the elements and principles of art to create work.

    Art History will be explored as it relates to assignments.

    A more in depth use of a variety of materials and methods as they relate to particular themes and subjects.

    An extension of art vocabulary to help express themselves verbally and in writing.

    Students will learn to critique a work of art.

    Professional  maintenance of artwork in a digital portfolio throughout the year.



    Expectations:

    Students are expected to attend class regularly, arrive to class on time each day and work for the entire class period.

    In the event of a legal class absence or lateness, the student is responsible to provide a legal pass upon return and will make up work missed due to the absence.  

    Upon return from a legal absence, students are expected to meet deadlines known prior to the absence, and are given a fair amount of time to make up assignments that were given during the absence.

    Students are responsible for being aware of and completing assignments online.

    10 points off for each day an assignment is late with a max of 2 days to hand in an assignment late

    Students will maintain a level of respect for themselves, their peers, the teacher, and the classroom.

    All safety rules must be followed.

    Students will not attempt to use a tool or material without having its function demonstrated or explained (Refer to the code of conduct for consequences related to safety and destruction)

    Class participation is expected including cleaning up any tools and materials used.

    Students will have the possibility of staying after school to work on current projects if needed.. An “open studio” will generally be offered at least once a week.

    Students are also welcome to come to class during a lunch or study hall period. A pass MUST be provided in advance.

    Participation in events and competitions outside of class.   

     

    Evaluation:

    Participation is worth a portion of the grade. This includes maintenance of the room, volunteer work, contribution to demonstrations and discussions, and daily productivity.

    Sketchbook, written, and homework assignments will be worth a portion of the grade.  This includes assignments in Google classroom or any other online resources.

    Projects will be worth a portion of the grade.

     

    Portfolio:

    The final exam grade is the average of the portfolio, a final project and a formal assessment.

    The final exam grades may also be included as a portion of the 10 week average. The final exam is worth 1/5 of the course grade.
