Texture- An artwork's surface quality such as smooth, rough, and soft
Simulated/Implied Texture- The perceived surface quality in an artwork

Using a ruler as a stencil (no measuring required), trace the ruler vertically and horizontally across a page in your sketchbook to create a grid with space that are even to the thickness of the ruler. In every other space, glue an image of a texture/pattern that you found in a magazine. In the following grid square try to draw that very texture.
You must complete the following:
- A clear effort to mimic the line quality from the chosen images
- The textures and patterns (both glued in and drawn) fill each grid square
- There is only one example of a particular texture so that the page is filled with variety
- The work is done neatly ad handed in on time (see above due date)
Sketchbook Assignment # 2
9.11.17
Due 10.4.17

Radiating design- Art and design in which the overall composition is defined by radial stripes emanating from a single or multiple points.
Process:
Create a black and white mandala on a page in your sketchbook.
You must do the following:
- Use a radial circular design as your underlying format

Sketchbook Assignment #3
9.18.17
Due 10.4.17Vocabulary:
Proportion- parts in comparative relation to a whole.
Contour Lines- a line which defines a form or an edge. It is, essentially, the outline or silhouette of a Value- the lightness or darkness of tones or colors. White is the lightest value; black is the darkest. The value halfway between these extremes is called middle grayProcess:
Create a collage in your sketchbook using at least 3 different textures that you glue into your sketchbook. On the page opposite of your collage, draw the collage. Your collage will demonstrate the proportions and line varieties you observe in your collageYou must complete the following:
Create a collage with 3 textures
Create a drawing of your collage
Demonstrate the ability to observe and draw the line qualities of the observed textures
Demonstrate the ability to measure proportions3-D Design
Sketchbook Assignment #4
9.25.17
Due 10.4.17
Vocabulary:
Color Wheel- A circle with different colored sectors used to show the relationship between colors.
Primary- A color, as red, yellow, or blue, that in mixture yields other colors.
Secondary- A secondary color is a color made by mixing two primary colors together: red and yellow to get orange, yellow and blue to get green, or red and blue to get purple.
Warm Colors- Colors that reference “warmth”. The colors on the color wheel from red-violet to yellow-green, through the reds and oranges.
Cool Colors- Colors that reference “coolness”. The colors on the color wheel from yellow-green to red-violet, through the greens and blues.
Intermediate- The intermediate colors are: Red-Orange, Yellow-Orange, Yellow- Green, Blue-Green, Blue-Violet, and Red- Violet. The Intermediate colors are made by mixing equal amounts of a primary and a secondary color. When naming the intermediate colors, you always say the primary color name first.
Complimentary-Two colors on opposite sides of the color wheel, which when placed next to each other make both appear brighter.
Process:
Find the center of your sketchbook page Use a protractor to measure out 12 equal sections of your sketchbook page. Using stencils, trace a few overlapping shapes on top of your measurements.
Color in each section as it relates to the color wheel. Colors will transition into one another through pressure and blending
You must complete the following:
- 12 even sections
- Every color from the color wheel is created
- Shapes in addition to the general measurements
Sketchbook Assignment #5
10.10.17
Due 11.8.17
Vocabulary:
Silhouette-the dark shape and outline of someone or something visible against a lighter background, especially in dim light.
Mosaic- a picture or pattern produced by arranging together small colored pieces of hard material, such as stone, tile, or glass.

You must complete the following:
- Contrasting color scheme is apparent
- Pieces are no larger than a dime
- Spaces in between fragments are thin so that 90% of the page is covered with color
- Pieces are neatly glues in and show the clear outline of the silhouette

You must complete the following:
- The theme shown in both a rectangular and square composition

Create a drawing that replicates the image , but only exhibits the basic shapes (square, circle, oval triangle, etc)
Create a third drawing that replicates the second bit adds textural shapes and includes shading to suggest form
(see example on the cabinets)
You must complete the following:

- Must have a drawing that emphasizes the basic shapes of the subject
- Must have another drawing that replicates the simplified drawing but brings back some sense of texture and form using shading.
