Supplies Needed:
Sketchbook- 81/2”x11” or larger, spiral or sewn binding- PLEASE NO TAPED BINDING AS THEY WILL FALL APART
Pencils with erasers
Storage box such as a shoebox
You may also want to have a few materials at home to complete assignments started in class such as glue, pencils and colored pencils
Completion of a computer user agreement form
A plan for a device (computer, smartphone etc.) with which you will complete assignments online. If you do not own one, you need to arrange for public access to a device in order to complete work by the deadline. Please communicate if you need assistance with this instruction
Topics to be covered:
The use of the elements and principles of art to design and create work.
Art History will be explored as it relates to assignments.
Students will become familiar with a variety of media such as fiber arts, glass, metal and mixed media.
Students will learn the fundamentals of craft and sculpture
Students will become familiar with art vocabulary to help express themselves verbally and in writing.
Students will learn to critique a work of art.
Each student will learn to photograph and maintain their work in a digital portfolio throughout the year.
Expectations:
Students are expected to arrive to class on time each day and work for the entire class period.
In the event of a legal class absence or lateness, the student is responsible to provide a legal pass upon return and will make up work missed due to the absence.
Upon return from a legal absence, students are expected to meet deadlines known prior to the absence, and are given a fair amount of time to make up assignments that were given during the absence.
Students are responsible for being aware of and completing assignments online.
10 points off for each day an assignment is late with a max of 2 days to hand in an assignment late
Students will maintain a level of respect for themselves, their peers, the teacher, and the classroom.
All safety rules must be followed.
Students will not attempt to use a tool or material without having its function demonstrated or explained. Refer to the code of conduct for consequences related to safety and destruction.
Class participation is expected.
An “open studio” will generally be offered at least once a week as needed.
Students are also welcome to attend other classes during a lunch or study hall period but must be provided with a pass issued in advance.
Evaluation:
Participation is worth a portion of the grade. This includes maintenance of the room, volunteer work, contribution to demonstrations and discussions, and daily productivity.
Sketchbook, written, and homework assignments will be worth a portion of the grade.
Projects will be worth a portion of the grade.
Portfolio and final Exam:
The final exam grade is the average of the portfolio, and a final project
The final exam grades may also be included as a portion of the 10 week average. The final exam is worth 1/5 of the course grade.
