The Board member election will be held on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, the same time as the District’s vote on the 2023/2024 school budget at the Fishkill, Fishkill Plains, Gayhead, Vassar Road, Myers Corners Elementary Schools, and Wappingers Junior High School between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 9:00 p.m.
For the May 16, 2023 election, petitions must be received in the Office of the District Clerk, 25 Corporate Park Drive, PO Box 396, Hopewell Junction, NY by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, April 17, 2023. When you file your petition, it is helpful if you also provide a telephone number and/or e-mail address where you may be contacted.
Nominating petitions in the Wappingers Central School District must be signed by at least 127 qualified district voters. Candidates may wish to secure additional signatures, in case any signatures are invalidated. A qualified voter is a citizen of the U.S., at least 18 years old and a resident of the school district for at least 30 days immediately prior to the election. A person does not need to be a registered voter to satisfy the legal definition of a qualified voter for the purposes of signing a school board nominating petition.
All candidates must also file three campaign contribution and expense statements, in accordance with NYS Education Law Section 1529. Please note, I will be glad to notarize your signature in my office.
A drawing to determine the position of candidates’ names on the ballot will be conducted in the District Clerk’s Office on Tuesday, April 18, 2023 at 8:30 a.m.; candidates or their designated proxy may attend. The District Clerk will act as a proxy for any candidate who is not present and hasn’t designated a proxy in writing.
