A Message from the Superintendent of Schools

Dear WCSD Community,

UPDATE: I have been informed by the NYS Police that an individual has been identified in the sending or reposting of this social media post and is facing criminal charges. This matter will also be handled from a District perspective, in accordance with our Code of Conduct.

We have been made aware of police and FBI activity involving a non-specific threat in our community; the FBI received a tip about some online activity that led them to a home in our District.  The FBI, as well as the NYS Troopers, were quick to notify us, and were quick to determine this threat was non-credible.  We will continue to work with our law enforcement partners to get more information, but I commend those who saw something and said something. As always, if parents or students see concerning activity on social media that they perceive to be a threat against an individual, a school, or our district, please contact law enforcement and the school principal; or, if you prefer to be anonymous, use our Anonymous Alerts App.

We would also like to encourage families to talk about "Report, don't Repost," a concept supported by law enforcement. Have your children speak to you about what they see online, so they can learn more about responsible reporting of potential violence, vs. reposting something spreading around the internet that may cause panic.
