Welcome to Life Skills! Our class will prepare students to become more independent when they leave high school.  Our students will be provided with opportunities to develop and refine social communication (role playing) and daily living skills, such as balancing a checkbook, following a recipe, planning a healthy menu, financial literacy, social leisure activities etc. There will be many projects to complete during the course of this year! The Life Skills class will be hands-on work without doing worksheets every  day! The students will also receive work experience through a variety of outlets, including on-site work experiences, student-run businesses, out-of-school placements with job coaching, and independent work experience. The focus of the class is on experiential learning and skills learned within the classroom, which are generalized to their academic classes, elective classes, social, and vocational situations. This year we will be continuing with our student-run business, The Ketcham Coffee Café.  It is a coffee shop/breakfast business available to our staff each Friday morning.  Last year, we had a lot of success and the staff had nothing but rave reviews about the cafe. This provides an opportunity for our students to learn a sense of small business skills, such as taking inventory, preparing goods to sell, sales techniques, money collection and counting, plus it is a great way to practice social skills.

    ~Classwork Assignments

    Late Work Policy

A student who is absent for any reason will be given the opportunity to make up the missed work, and will receive credit for any made-up work. A student will have the same number of days to make up work as the number of days missed.  YOU are responsible for getting any missed work.

Attendance is mandatory for success (YOU MUST LOG IN).  Not only will you be acquiring academic skills to be a successful student, but you will also strive to achieve those “soft skills” that society expects you to be a successful person.  You must be willing to put in the extra effort needed to achieve this.  I expect you to accept responsibility for your choices regarding behavior and priorities and to develop and maintain a work ethic that will enable you to be successful.

Please note that ATTENDANCE is a critical part of your grade.   Chronic absences or failure to get to class on time can be a detriment to your grades.  Having a positive attitude, showing effort and maintaining appropriate behavior is necessary to attain success in the class.

Please talk to Mrs. Bradley in private about any concerns you may have regarding the class.

I have read and understand the rules and expectations for Life Skill 2023-2024.  Please return this section signed by Friday 9/15/2023.  This will be an ASSIGNMENT GRADE!
