• The Wappingers Central School District, through participation in the NYS Universal Pre-Kindergarten Program (UPK), is providing a 5-hour per day UPK program to a select number of children who are or will be four (4) years of age on or before December 1, 2022.  The UPK program will follow the district's school calendar, with classes beginning in September 2022.

The New York State Education Department determines the number of children to be served by the Wappingers Central School District.  For the 2022-2023 school year, 227 UPK seats will be available.  Children who are or will be four (4) years of age on or before December 1, 2022, are eligible to participate in this program.

Due to space limitations within our public schools, the state is encouraging community partners to help us support the UPK program.  Classes will be offered both within a number of our elementary schools as well as at selected community pre-schools that are licensed by NYS.  The Wappingers Central School District will contract with the following pre-schools for the 2022-2023 school year:

In addition, three (3) district schools will operate UPK for the 2022-2023 school year.  Unfortunately, we are not able to offer a before & after school program at our public school locations.  The schools that will operate UPK  are:

Location 7:  Fishkill Plains Elementary School (Time: 9:00 - 2:00)
Location 8:  Kinry Road Elementary School (Time: 9:00 - 2:00)
    Location 9:  Fishkill Elementary School (Time: 9:00 - 2:00)

The New York State Education Department has determined that the district must select participating students using a random lottery when there are more eligible children than can be served in a given school year.  A waiting list will be developed for all students not placed.  As seats become available, families will be offered the next available placement.

Transportation to any of the locations listed above is not available for this program.  Transportation must be provided by the child's family.

Breakfast and lunch service is also not available.  Meals must be provided by the child's family.

If you are interested in applying for your child's participation in this program, please complete the application.  The application can be accessed here.  The application deadline is Tuesday, April 19, 2022. The lottery will take place the week of April 25, 2022.  You will be notified if your child is selected for the program or if your child is on the waiting list.

All children who are selected to participate in the program will be required to register their child and show proof of age, residence, and  immunization records (immunization requirements are noted in our registration packet found on our website).  Registration will begin on May 2, 2022.  Additional information will be provided to our selected families regarding the registration process.
