Course Description: Communication Systems is a half-year, full credit course, taught by the Department of Technology in conjunction with the Art Department (Studio-In-Art) at RCK. Upon completion of both Communication Systems and Studio-In-Art, students will receive credit in Technology and Art. Students will complete projects that encompass the four types of communication systems; Audio, Visual, Audio/Visual and Electronic.
Classroom Supplies: Students will need a 3-ring binder and a pencil with eraser. A complete portfolio of all work done in class will be organized into a 3-ring binder. DO NOT throw away any course material away. All course handouts, notes, test, and quizzes should be kept within your portfolio. Portfolios will be collected and graded on completeness and organization throughout the semester.
Attendance Policy: Students are expected to attend class; if they do not attend class it will affect their participation/daily grade.
Participation/Daily Grade: Students daily grades will be determined by their attitude, participation in group projects, class discussion and safety awareness. Homework Policy: Homework will be given periodically; late homework will not be accepted unless the student has a legal absence.
Activities/Projects: Students will complete a screen printing project, a Photoshop project and produce and shoot a commercial.

Classroom Expectations: Students are required to attend class each day when present in school, be on time for class, enter class, sit down and be quiet, be prepared with a pen or pencil and notebook, be courteous and respectful to others, complete all projects on time. If a student is written two referrals for violations, (playing any games whatsoever, watching videos on the computer that do not pertain to this class or inappropriately using the computers) they can be permanently removed from the class.

As a part of Communication Systems course, students will study the societal impacts communications has on our lives, both positive and negative, as well as roles communication systems play in private and public sectors of society. As a part of a class assignment/discussion, students will have an opportunity to view the move Enemy of the State © 1998 starring Will Smith and Gene Hackman. This film is rated MA-17 for violence and adult language. If you have any questions or wish your son/daughter take part in a different activity, please contact the instructor ASAP.
