Course Description: Metals manufacturing processes is a half year course designed for students who have an interest in the craft and art of metalworking. This program focuses on the fundamentals of metalworking, machine operation, properties of metals, and above all safety. This course will give students a background in the field of metalworking encompassing such skills as machining, welding, forging, and sheet metalwork.
Classroom Supplies: Students are expected to bring a pencil and folder to class every day. They are also expected to bring in a lock to put on a locker to secure their projects throughout the class. A combination lock is encouraged.
Attendance Policy: Students are expected to attend class; if they do not attend class it will affect their participation/daily grade. There will be an in-class assignment the first and last day of every week, if a student is absent either of these days, the student needs to make up the work.
Projects: Six projects including machining (lathe and mill), forging, sheet metal, arc welding, and oxy-fuel welding.
Participation/Daily Grade: Students daily grades will be determined by their attitude, participation in group projects, class discussion, safety awareness, and willingness to clean-up at the end of class.
