Welcome to the Spring Track & Field page for Wappingers Junior High School! This section will provide you with basic information about the tryout process. This explains each step that needs to be completed to be considered for the Track & Field team. There are a limited number of spaces but we typically take about 50 students who are independent, hardworking, dedicated and RESPECTFUL. Following these steps will improve your chances of making the team.
Tryout Dates: TBA (Late March)
Season Starts: Beginning of April 2025
Step 1: Complete the documents on Arbiter Sports during the Spring registration period. You will need important medical documents, doctor's notes and an up-to-date physical exam (each year). The district will need to clear your child before they can participate in the tryouts. Students cannot tryout for the team if they are not cleared by the district first.
Step 2: All athletes who are interested in trying out for the team need to attend a basic informational meeting with the coach. This is where we discuss tryout procedures, expectations, events and allow athletes a chance to ask questions. If you cannot attend this meeting, athletes should email me before the meeting and receive the information before the tryout sessions.
Step 3: Athletes need to get a grade sheet and complete a questionnaire so we know more information about them. Both documents can be found in the Google classroom, a physical copy of the grade sheet can be found in the main office. We focus on more than just athletics, we like to see how they are in school and know if they can complete simple tasks.
Step 4: Athletes need to attend all the tryout dates to showcase their abilities on the field. We typically do two running events (100m & 400m) and two field events (long jump & shot put). We have created a point system to determine who performed well in each event.
Step 5: Athletes will get the final list of individuals who made the team by 3pm on Friday. Students will have their ID numbers listed in the Google classroom (names will not be used).
Please email me if you have any questions or concerns.
