1. Communication Technology
a. What is it?
A process of giving or exchanging information.
b. Examples: cell Phones, internet, cell phones
c. Impacts: internet – a means of communicating quickly and inexpensively over long distances.
2. Bio-Related and Agricultural Technology
a. What is it? Deals with those things which are alive, or technologies that keep things alive
b. Examples: artificial limbs, sanitation, plant growth, conservation
c. Impacts: Health– improves quality of life.
3. Production Technology – Manufacturing
a. What is it? Changes materials into usable products
b. Examples: clothing, automobiles, lumber
c. Impacts: new products help to make our life easier and increase leisure time.
4. Production Technology – Construction
a. What is it? Building a structure – made by joining parts to meet a certain need.
b. Examples: houses, bridges, dams
c. Impacts: provides shelter, improves roads, creates employment opportunities.
5. Transportation Technology
a. What is it? The process by which people, animals, products, and materials are moved from one place to the next.
b. Examples: airplane, cruise ships, train, conveyor belts
c. Impacts: Commuting made easier and traveling long distances faster.
6. Energy and Power Technology
a. What is it? Energy is the ability to do work.
b. Examples: chemical energy, mechanical energy, thermal energy
c. Impacts: Without energy and power, most technologies would not exist or work.
