May 30, 2021
Dear Parents and Guardians,
The month of June marks the beginning of the end of the 2020-2021 school year. In several weeks students will be enjoying their well-deserved summer recess.
Last Official Week of School
Students will be dismissed early on the last three days of the school year. Below are the details:
June 22: JHS Dismissal 10:30
June 23: Remote Day: JHS Instructional Day ends at 10:30
June 24: JHS Dismissal 10:30
Students will follow a modified bell schedule each day.
These early dismissal dates coincide with the dates of our Moving Up ceremonies scheduled on June 22 and June 23. June 24 is the rain date. Beginning June 1, parents will be able to sign up for time slots on FamilyID.
National Junior Honor Society
The National Junior Honor Society Induction Ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, June 3. Inductees with last names beginning with letters A-L will be recognized during periods 1 and 2; while inductees with last names M-Z will be recognized during periods 8 and 9.
District and school officials will be on hand to witness the induction ceremony. Inductees are encouraged to dress appropriately for the event. The induction ceremony will be live streamed and then posted on YouTube for parents to view at their convenience.
Inductees should bring a pen or pencil to the ceremony. They will be asked to print their names on index cards provided by the school. These index cards will be used by the reader when announcing the names of the inductees.
Parents of remote students who have NOT yet responded to whether their children will attend the induction ceremony are asked to contact Mr. Orlando at email@example.com by Wednesday, June 2.
The PTA is planning its Staff Appreciation Luncheon for Friday, June 18. Due to COVID restrictions, they are asking for monetary donations for the purchase of food, instead of parents sending in food.. Donations can be made to the Van Wyck PTA at firstname.lastname@example.org. Please contact Maria if you have any questions. Thank you for your continued support of our school.
The NYS Grade 8 Science Test is scheduled for Monday, June 7. Seventh grade students will report to school under a 2-hour bus delay schedule. The test will take approximately 2-hours for 8th grade students to complete. Once the test is over, students will report to class to begin the instructional day. All students will follow a modified bell schedule for the remainder of the day beginning 1st period. Remote students should log-in to their 2nd period class by 9:30 am.
On behalf of faculty, staff, students, and administrators, I wish you a good Memorial Day. We stand alongside our veterans and honor the soldiers who paid the ultimate sacrifice defending our country and way of life. We also honor those currently serving in the military.
Tuesday, June 1, is Day 3.
