    Dear Parents and Guardians,

We look forward to seeing our students on Monday. Please keep in mind that tomorrow is Day 6.

We are finalizing our school picture efforts with Lifetouch and plan to offer another session on Wednesday, March 10, from 1:00-5:00 pm, for parents who have not yet had their children’s pictures taken. Retakes will be accepted at this time, as well. Parents can secure appointments by visiting FamilyID. Please keep in mind that it is unlikely children will be included in the Yearbook if their picture is not taken. Please reach out to Susan Ratsey at susan@ratsey.com with specific questions regarding the yearbook.

The survey recently sent home by the District on remote and hybrid instruction is closed. We will be looking at the results very carefully and making strategic decisions regarding in-person instruction. Your patience and understanding is appreciated as we consider a number of important factors, such as social distancing guidelines and transportation.

The academic, social, and emotional needs of our students are extremely important. I attached two important links for you to consider on Bloom’s Taxonomy (Bloom's Taxonomy) and Maslow’s Hierarchy (Maslow's Theory of Needs Hierarchy). Both theories will continue to influence our thinking as we move through the pandemic. Mental health is becoming an increasingly important topic of discussion in our schools.

I am pleased to report that approximately 70 percent of our students made the Honor and High Honor Roll for the 2nd marking period and many other students fell just below the 85 percent threshold. My congratulations in advance to all of our students who made the honor roll. Keep up the great work!

Please be reminded that you and your children should be on the lookout for information regarding application to the National Junior Honor Society. Simply put, the initial criterion for potential acceptance to the society is a 90 or better cumulative GPA without failure over the past six (6) marking periods for full-time students. If you have any questions, please reach out to Advisors Erik Bjorkman, Eva Conway, or Nicholas Orlando. More information will be shared with you and your children by them in the near future.

Please continue to complete the ezSCRN before sending your children to school each day. As always, keep your children home if they are experiencing any one or more COVID symptoms.

    Be well and be safe.
    Respectfully,
    Dr. Steven H. Shuchat, Principal
    Van Wyck Junior High School
