                         Classroom News

    Week of May 13th – 17th:

    Monday: During our morning meeting, we did our teen number cube greeting. We built teen numbers together using magnetic tens and ones blocks. We played “I Spy a Snap Word”. During phonics, we used sound boxes to segment the sounds in words. We learned about the two sounds for “th”. We practiced blending sounds to read words with the “th” digraph. We introduced the snap word, “for”. We listened to the story, How to Catch a Mamasaurus. During writer’s workshop, we learned that stories we read can spark ideas for our own stories. During math, we practiced reading teen numbers and counting objects in the teens. We played “7-up” to end our day.

    Tuesday: During our morning meeting, we did our teen number cube greeting. We fixed our morning message to make sense. During phonics, we practiced sounding out words to spell them on our dry erase boards. We reviewed the digraph, “th”. We wrote a sentence that was dictated to us. During reader’s workshop, we learned that readers and writers use word part power to read and write lots of words. (word parts like, “an, it, in”)  We read with our reading partners. During math, we took a quiz on counting and recognizing teen numbers. We also tried to solve a subtraction word problem independently. During positivity project time, we reviewed how it is important to listen to others and give them our full attention. We chose new purposeful play spots.

    Wednesday: During our morning meeting, we did our teen number cube greeting. We built teen numbers with our tens and ones magnets. During phonics, we introduced the digraph, “ch”. We practiced sounding out and blending words with “ch”. During writer’s workshop, we learned that writers sometimes write in all capital letters when they want certain words to be loud. We continued to work on our storytelling stories. We listened to the story, Too Many Frogs and we made predictions. We did Starfall activities on the iPads. During math, we practiced counting by tens to 100 and created class cube trains with 100 cubes. We continued to review how other people matter during positivity project time.  We chose our purposeful play spots.

    Thursday: During our morning meeting, we did our teen number cube greeting. We labeled picture cards by sounding them out. We had a practice lockdown drill this morning. During phonics, we practiced segmenting and blending words with digraphs, ch, sh and th.  We wrote a sentence that was dictated to us. During math, we practiced counting numbers from 1-100. We worked in math stations. The stations included, subtracting within 5, showing numbers with tens and ones blocks, racing to fill up two ten frames and recognizing teen numbers from 11- 16. We continued to review how other people matter during positivity project time. We listened to two stories and had discussions about them: I’m a Good Friend! and I’m in Charge of Me!

    Friday: During our morning meeting, we did our teen number cube greeting. The New Hamburg Firefighters came for a visit to discuss Fire Safety and Prevention. We had Library time today.  During math, we practiced counting on from different numbers. We worked in our math stations. During phonics, we introduced the “wh” digraph. We practiced sounding out words to read them. We chose our purposeful play spots.

     

     

    Reminders:  Please clean out your child’s folder each evening and return it to school the next day.
