Week of December 2nd – 6th:
Monday: During our morning meeting, we passed the cylinder shape around the circle, said its name and said good morning to our neighbor. We reviewed our alphabet cards. We had Library time. We learned about animal hibernation and listened to the story, Time to Sleep. During reader’s workshop, we walked around the classroom and read words with our reading buddy. During phonics, we reviewed the letter of the day, “Ll” and we learned a new snap word, “look”. During math, we reviewed some of our 3D shapes and compared objects to see which was heavier and which was lighter. Our positivity project character trait is “Kindness”. We listened to a story, Kindness Rocks. We chose our new purposeful play spots.
Tuesday: During our morning meeting, we did our cylinder shape greeting. We played “I spy a snap word”. During phonics, we reviewed the letter of the day, “Bb”. During reader’s workshop, we learned to read words in a book by pointing to a word and saying a word. We practiced reading two Mabel stories, My Toys and The Snow. During writer’s workshop, we learned that “when we think we are done, we have just begun”. We can add to our pictures, add to our words, add a page, or start a new piece. During math, we identified 3d shapes by their attributes. We compared objects by their weight using a pan balance scale. We continued to discuss Kindness during positivity project time. We listened to the story, You Can Be Kind, Pout Pout Fish. We chose our next purposeful play spots.
Wednesday: During our morning meeting, we did our cylinder shape greeting. We labeled two picture cards together, “hat” and “cup”. During phonics, we reviewed the letter of the day, “Hh”. We learned a new snap word, “see”. During reader’s workshop, we learned to do a sneak peek so you can think about what the whole book will be about. We practiced pointing to a word and saying a word. We read I See My…. Then we read with our reading buddies from our finger point bins. We listened to the story, Laxmi’s Mooch. We made predictions and practiced retelling the story at the end. During math, we had a quiz on 3d shapes and on comparing objects as “heavier” or “lighter”. We played on the Star Fall app when using the iPads during computer time. We had a fire drill during Art class. We chose our next purposeful play spots.
Thursday: 2 Hour Delay. During our morning meeting, we did our cylinder shape greeting. We played, “I Spy a Snap Word”. During phonics, we reviewed the letter sounds of the day, “Ff and Tt”. We added some new pictures to our alphabet chart. We practiced writing lowercase letters, b, l, h, f and t. During writer’s workshop, we started a new “Show and Tell” unit. We looked at an item of clothing we were wearing or an object like our water bottles and we drew detailed pictures of our objects and labeled them. During math, we practiced adding numbers together with a partner by using our fingers to find a total. We chose our next purposeful play spots.
Friday: During our morning meeting, we did our cylinder shape greeting. We labeled two picture cards together, “pig, can”. During phonics, we reviewed the letter sound of the day, “Kk”. We added some more new pictures to our alphabet chart. We reread the story, Laxmi’s Mooch and focused on the characters’ feelings. During reader’s workshop, we learned that we can use a book’s pattern to help us read. We practiced reading the decodable text, Things I Like To Do. During math, we practiced adding to find a total by counting all our fingers. We learned the number eight rhyme and practiced forming the number. During science, we practiced using a “trend line” to notice a pattern on a temperature graph. We chose our new purposeful play spots.
