Reading Log:  Every student has a reading log that they are responsible for filling in their book title, pages read, and time read each day in class and at home.  As they read fiction or informational texts they each have a goal to work on and be sure they are working on as they read.  The goal will change throughout the year as they master each goal.

Writing:  Every student has a writing notebook that they use to gather ideas, draft essays on specific topics, draft story openings, problems/solutions, and strong endings.  If your child did not finish drafting or writing in class, they will need to finish the idea at home.  Long research reports when we are in the informational writing unit 3, will be written in class, but if your child is falling behind in gathering information or finishing specific paragraphs, they may need to use their time at home to find additional resources or complete a paragraph.

Math:  Every student masters math skills at different speeds.  Homework will be based on previous lessons and be sheets to practice skills needing to be worked on and mastered.  Be sure your child is completing his math worksheet each night.  If your child does not come home with a sheet, be sure to have them drill facts with flashcards (+, -, X or division) or go on my math links to work on skills of operations, fractions, and problem solving for at least 10 minutes a night.

Social Studies/Science:  Part of these subjects is reading informational texts and we do not have time in class, especially on a lab day to complete questions based on texts, so some nights the students may need to finish reading the weekly newspapers and answer the questions based on the text evidence.
