Week of October 21st-25th
October 21, 2019
Day: 6
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Welcome back from the weekend! We are gearing up for a full week in Kindergarten filled with lots of fun activities. Please note all of the special days included in this letter.
This week in Kindergarten we will be working on the letters Ss and Ee. There will be homework on both letters. In class we will work on the correct formation. We will also work on the sight words, I, my, to and is.
This week in reading we will continue our work with identifying characters and their feelings. We will use our old favorites as well as new read alouds to help us identify with the characters. We will also practice sounding out words as we read our emergent readers. We will practice using our words to label pictures in stories that will help us connect to the words on the pages.
In writing we will continue to work on writing our teaching books. The children will continue to write across their pages adding more details to each page. They will also try to stretch out, or sound out words for labels and sentences.
In math we will continue to work on numbers 6-10. We will practice counting using 1:1 correspondence and we will practice correct formation. There will be math homework as well this week.
In science we will talk about the weather. We will discuss the differences between normal and severe weather. We will talk about blizzards, tornadoes, and hurricanes.
On Wednesday, we will be heading over to Kinry Road school for the FUN RUN. Thank you to everyone that registered and keep those donations coming. We are asking everyone to wear their class t-shirts that came home last week for the FUN RUN.. If it’s chilly out that day we suggest that the children wear a long sleeved shirt underneath. We want all of the students to wear comfortable pants and sneakers as well. You may want to send in an additional pair of socks for children to change into in case their shoes get wet in the grass. If it rains on Wednesday, the FUN RUN will be moved to Thursday.
We will be learning the color black this week as well, however we will not be having the children wear black on Thursday. Instead we will be combining black with orange next week on October 31st(which is also a ½ day for students). The students can still bring in a black show and tell this Friday to share.
On Friday, we will be having our Veteran’s Day concert. The children have been working on songs and will be performing for local veterans. Please dress your child in red, white and blue for the concert.
Thanks and let’s have a great week in Kindergarten! Please ask your children about all of the fun that they will be having this week.
Sincerely,
The Kindergarten Teachers
