Mrs. Allen & Mrs. Olivares

    April 1, 2020

    Dear Families,

We are excited to continue working with our students on April 3rd using distance learning. All of our Gayhead staff will utilize Google Classroom to share videos, assignments and communicate with our students. Your child will be added to their “classroom” and you will be sent a class code (email teachers if needed).  Bear in mind, many students joined the class when they worked on a project while physically in school. You can log into the class by following these steps:

         URL (web address): Classroom.google.com

         Click “Go to classroom”

Sign in using your child’s WCSD email and password:

        email: Firstname.Lastname@k12.wcsdny.org

        password: StudentfirstnameIDNumber

We, room 20, will be creating office hours which will be 9:00 am to 10:00 am Monday through Friday. These hours are subject to change. You can contact us by emailing both teachers (christine.allen@wcsdny.org and kate.olivares@wcsdny.org) or by asking your question in the Google Doc labeled “Questions” in our Google Classroom. We will respond to your emails and questions during our office hours and we will also be reaching out to students/parents using various other methods of communication, as needed, in the upcoming weeks.

If you have not done so already, please make sure you are able to help your child login to Google Classroom. You should see Mrs. Allen and Mrs. Olivares’ Google Classroom. Doing this will have you prepared for Friday’s (4/3) lesson (and those going forward). Please have your child practice logging in as much as they can; it may be helpful to write your child’s email and password on an index card that they can keep near the device that they will use. Additionally, your child might like to have a quiet spot chosen, like on their bed or in a den with minimal traffic or interruption. This is also where they can plan to do their independent work after the lesson, if possible.  You might find it helpful to let your child know where they can find notebook paper and pencils or pens in your home. Please continue to read, practice math facts and have your child use i-ready or Lexia as much as is possible for your family.

We are hoping to make this experience as positive as possible for all involved and we recognize that many families are juggling various responsibilities. Please be mindful of your own stress levels at this time. We are here for your children and their well-being is of the utmost importance to us.
