About Mrs. Fitz :)
Mrs. Fitzsimmons has been a member of the Wappingers Central School District ever since her first day of school! She began AM Kindergarten at Oak Grove Elementary and then moved on to St. Mary's School in Wappingers Falls. Mrs. Fitz went to Wappingers Junior High, Roy C. Ketcham, and then continued her education at Dutchess Community College. She graduated from SUNY Oneonta with her BS in Elementary Education and has her Masters in Literacy from Mercy College. Her first experience with Fishkill Plains was during her student teaching placement in the fourth grade back in 2001. Mrs. Fitz knew right away that she wanted to work here and be part of this fantastic school community!
Mrs. Fitzsimmons is in her 24th year of teaching and truly loves what she does. She says she is surrounded by amazing people, fantastic students, and great friends! Mr. and Mrs. Fitzsimmons have been married for 21 years, live in the WCSD and have two boys. Dean is 17 years old and is a senior in high school! He loves playing football for RCK and cheering on his favorite team, the Dallas Cowboys, with his Dad. Patrick is 13 years old and is entering 8th grade. He loves playing football, everything basketball, hanging out with his friends, and listening to music, like his Mom ;)
From Mrs. Fitz :)
My mission as an educator is to empower my students to become active participants in the
classroom. I will help them develop skills as life-long learners and critical thinkers as well
as challenge each student to reach their highest potential. I expect my students to be a
conscious model of moral and ethical behavior. Respect, responsibility and safety are
emphasized and taught whole-heartedly throughout the year.
Third grade is truly a wonderful year. The children begin to be more independent and take
on many more responsibilities. They are empowered with these new tasks and it is exciting
to see their growth over the ten months of school! The transition from second grade to third
grade is surprising and can seem a bit overwhelming during the first couple weeks of school.
I promise that you will see the children emerge as independent learners and workers.
Get ready for a fantastic year!
