Every day in April and May, students and volunteers check nets for juvenile eels that swim up the Hudson River all the way from the Atlantic Ocean. This is the second year that Wappingers students have been fortunate to participate in the Eel Project. This is a citizen science program in coordination with the NYS DEC (New York State Department of Environmental Conservation). However, this is the first year that the students have had their own sampling site at Hunter's Brook located in Reece Park in the Village of Wappingers. Students from WJHS, RCK, and John Jay have been participating in the program this year since April 17th.
The mission of the Wappingers Central School District is to empower all of our students with the competencies and confidence to challenge themselves, to pursue their passions, and to realize their potential while growing as responsible members of their community.
