No food items for in class Birthday recognition

Commencing next school year 2014-2015 - Gayhead will no longer be accepting any food items to celebrate your child's birthday.  Every year there has been an increase in the number of students coming with food allergies into  the school.   I am no longer comfortable with keeping this past practice in place in the building.   There are  many inexpensive items such as; pencils, glue sticks, stickies, coloring books, donation of a book to the class library and having it dedicated to the class library.  There are many articles that can replace food and still serve as  a nice recognition to the birthday boy/girl.  In addition to the traditional "Happy Birthday" song that will be continued to be sung in the classrooms.
