The New York State Education Department (NYSED) has provided revisions and clarification to their long standing attendance regulation which governs how many days and hours a student must attend public school each year. Students of the Wappingers Central School District have always met or exceeded the minimum days of attendance on an annual basis, but the clarifications provided by NYSED as to what is considered instructional time in our school day has required us to make modifications to our period structure at both our Junior and Senior High Schools. These modifications will ensure that our District remains in compliance with NYSED regulations and will ensure that our District continues to receive 100% of our State-provided financial aid as it relates to student attendance.
As such, the August 6, 2018 Board of Education meeting agenda will include a resolution to adopt a revised 2018-2019 school calendar. Along with this calendar we would like you to be aware of the our new period schedule for John Jay High School, Roy C. Ketcham High School, Van Wyck Jr High School, and Wappingers Jr High School.
Please note that the start and end times of the school day are NOT changing for K-8 buildings, only the start and end times of class periods.
The mission of the Wappingers Central School District is to empower all of our students with the competencies and confidence to challenge themselves, to pursue their passions, and to realize their potential while growing as responsible members of their community.
