    Dear Parent or Guardian,
The Holiday Season is upon us and faculty, staff, and students are excited about spending time with family and friends. It is time for reflection as we gather around the dinner table reaffirming what we believe to be important in our lives.
Regardless of how children and families spend the Holiday Season, we should remind ourselves to think of those less fortunate than us here locally, nationally, and around the world who are struggling to make ends meet. Our students, staff, PTA, and local community sponsor families with hope of brightening up the Holiday Season for them and their loved ones.  Boxes of food, clothing, and toys were delivered to families over the past several days by Mr. Brooks and Mrs. Amendolia. Their deeds are symbolic of everyone's effort here at Van Wyck to think beyond ourselves and spread kindness and hope to others.
We have a great deal to be thankful for, but there are children and families who need our help not only now, but through the school year. If you know of anyone who needs our help, please reach out to the school counseling department, Mrs. Amendolia, Mr. Brooks, administration, or teacher with confidence that your information will be kept confidential. Our goal is to connect children and families to the resources and supports they need.
In closing, on behalf of faculty, staff, and administration, I wish you and your loved ones a happy, healthy, joyful, and relaxing Holiday Season.
    Sincerely yours,
    Dr. Steven H. Shuchat, Principal
