Welcome to ELA 10!
In this course, we will continue to develop skills as readers, writers, and thinkers. Our coursework will support the standards in reading, writing, speaking & listening, and language. Throughout the year, we will work on key skills, including grammar, vocabulary, reading and writing strategies, critical thinking, cooperative learning, and more. Our work will also support IEP goals and work towards individual progress in these areas. Some of the novels we will be reading are: Of Mice and Men, Unwind, To Kill a Mockingbird, and Night.
Independent Reading
We will start class every other day with ten minutes of independent reading. Each student will be allowed to choose what book he or she reads, and I will work with students to choose books at their reading level that fits their interests.A student will not have to continue reading an independent reading book he or she does not like, as long as he/she works actively to find another one.
Throughout the school year, we will visit the school library together to explore possible books to read. Students can also bring in a book from home, or borrow a book from the classroom library.
