English Language Arts Academic Intervention Services
Grade 7/2017-2018 Pampalone
Welcome to Grade 7 ELA AIS! English Language Arts Academic Intervention Services is a class that will reinforce skills learned in your ELA class throughout the year. In ELA AIS this year, you will practice skills and have the opportunity to ask specific questions and focus on tasks that will help better prepare you for your ELA class. Please note, however, that ELA AIS is NOT a study period for make-up work or a period for you to complete your ELA homework. There is little written homework in ELA AIS class. The only assigned homework that you have is to read and/or journal every day. For the most part, that reading will be from a book you pick. On occasion, you will be asked to read from a specific text as your reading assignment. I will be asking for your input on these assignments because I want you to be involved in your learning. I truly want to know what you’d like to learn about and what interests you.
SKILLS: The skills we will be reviewing and reinforcing will be taken directly from the Common Core Standards and will be generated from units of study that your ELA teachers have created to best fit your educational needs and goals. Your ELA teachers and I work together to find activities and lessons that will help you succeed in ELA this year. The most important thing to remember is that YOU have to be a part of that process. It is very important for you to be involved in your educational success.
EXPECTATIONS: There are a few expectations that we need to follow in ELA AIS this year. I have no doubt that if we all follow these simple rules we will have a very successful year; both academically and socially. The expectations are: BE POLITE, BE PATIENT, BE POSITIVE, BE PROMPT, BE PREPARED, and BE PRODUCTIVE.
SUPPLIES: There are very few supplies that you need for ELA AIS this year. You will need a pen and a pencil each day with an eraser (let’s face it, no one is perfect, right?! We will all need to correct mistakes). You will need a composition notebook or a loose leaf notebook each day for your writing (PLEASE MAKE SURE THIS IS A SEPARATE NOTEBOOK SO IT CAN BE COLLECTED.) and a pocket folder for your writing each day. Other than that, bring a positive attitude and a smile and you will be prepared and ready for a successful year of ELA AIS! (Of course, I will never turn down donations of tissues or ANY school supplies that you want to bring in either.)
