    The Valentino Family: September, 2016
Hello!  My name is Jill Valentino and I love teaching children. I was born and raised in the Hudson Valley, and I have lived here for almost my entire life! I grew up in New Windsor, NY, and graduated from Newburgh Free Academy in 1995. I then went to live in Binghamton, NY for four years while attending Binghamton University. After graduating from college, I tried "city life" and lived in Boston, Massachusetts for a year while working in the fashion industry. I missed the Hudson Valley, however, and so in 2000, my husband and I moved back here for good! In 2004, my husband and I bought a 150 year old farmhouse in Ulster County. In 2006, our daughter Saige was born, followed by our second daughter Sophia who was born in 2014!
This year, 2016-2017, will be my thirteenth year of teaching. In 2004-2005, I taught fourth grade in Orange County for a year in the Washingtonville School District as a full-time leave replacement substitute. Then, in September, 2005, I came to the Wappingers School District where I taught Enrichment for three years at both Gayhead Elementary and Myers Corners Elementary. In 2008, I joined the Gayhead staff on a full-time basis, teaching third grade for two years, and then fourth grade for five years. I then moved to Brinckerhoff Elementary and taught third grade for one year. This year, I am thrilled to split my time between Gayhead and Brinckerhoff, teaching AIS Math and Reading!
I am certified to teach Elementary Education (Pre-K-6) and I have two master's degrees, one from Manhattanville College in Elementary Education, and one from Long Island University in Literacy.  I also have a BA in Psychology from Binghamton University.  I love to learn!
When not at work, I can be found at home playing with my 10 and 2 year old daughters, spending time with my husband Michael, writing (I freelance write and am working on my first novel!), reading, listening to classic rock music, or doing work on my MacBook Pro, iPad Mini, or iPhone 6 (I am a big fan of Apple Computers).

I look forward to a very successful 2016-2017 school year!

My goals for your child include:
~creating an environment of respect and courtesy
    ~instilling a love of learning
~challenging each child to be the best that they can be
~encouraging each child to have confidence in their abilities and be independent thinkers, learners, workers and problem solvers
