Hello and welcome to the 2019-20 school year here at John Jay High School. I'm looking forward to an invigorating and productive year for students in English Language Arts. Please feel free to email me directly to address questions or concerns regarding the course and our work together. That is the most efficient way to reach me and you will receive a response within one business day. I am available for extra help each day immediately before school in 208 and after school in 215, as well as periods three and four in the ELA office. I'm also in the test table during period seven. I am more than willing to assist students who need help and guidance; please allow me the opportunity. A few moments of clarification or explanation are often all kids need to feel capable of their work.
This website will be updated at the beginning of each week; please check back frequently to connect with the current focus of our curriculum. In terms of suggested materials, students will need a binder with a secure place for handouts, or an additional folder, plus a pen/pencil and paper each day. My deepest respect and gratitude to all parents and caregivers who help their students procure the needed materials and who actively involve themselves in their children's educational journey toward self-reliance and independance. Family members are key components in supporting the progressively difficult steps toward achieving a high school diploma. I very much look forward to our cooperation together this year.
Week of 11/18-
This week and next we'll begin reading A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry in class. All Narrative Reading Assessments from the short story unit should now be turned in. Students have taken roles for Act I, which we will complete by the Thanksgiving break. If students don't have a role for this act, I hope to see and hear from you during Act II. Please see me with any questions or concerns; I'm here to help.
