On November 28, 2016, The Wappingers Central School District Board of Education announced it will be appointing Babu Munusamy of Fishkill to serve as a member of the nine-person board. Mr. Munusamy, an environmental engineer and district parent, will fill a vacancy created in October. Mr. Munusamy will serve until the next annual board election to be declared on May 17, 2017.
The board’s decision was made following an open search and interview process that attracted six applicants. The six applicants for the open board seat were interviewed at a public meeting on November 9.
“A number of well-qualified candidates applied for the position and the decision was a choice among various strengths and skill sets,” said Board of Education President Peggy Kelland. “Mr. Munusamy’s experience in computer technology, environmentally sound solutions and corporate background provided a variety of knowledge not currently represented on the board.
Kelland added, “Furthermore, we wished to maintain a balance of representation of the various towns in the district.”
Munusamy, a resident of Fishkill for the past ten years has more than fifteen years’ experience in IT (Information Technology). He currently works for Verizon in the IT department. He holds a Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering from Penn State in addition to post-graduate work completed in Bioengineering at the University of Manchester in the United Kingdom and a Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering.
“I am excited and happy to be part of the WCSD,” said Munusamy. “I hope to contribute to the betterment of all of our students and look forward to serving our community.”
Munusamy and his wife, Vidhya, have one son who is a freshman at John Jay Senior High School.
Munusamy was sworn in at the November 28, 2016, board meeting held at Wappingers Junior High School.
