John Jay High School
Technology Department
Specific Computer Use Guidelines

John Jay High School employs computers as a means of teaching skills needed to work with technology and better prepare students to succeed in the 21st century. The school’s computers expose students to unequaled resources such as CD-Roms and the Internet and at the same time provide them with powerful new tools for learning. In order to make these resources available to all, the school expects that these computers be used responsibly and in keeping with the Wappingers Central School District’s Internet Acceptable Use Policy. Specifically, we expect that, when using or accessing the school’s computers:

  1. No person will deliberately or willfully cause or assist in the damage or modification of computer equipment and software.
  2. No person will deliberately access or assist in accessing inappropriate or illegal materials.
  3. No person will use another’s password or impersonate others when communicating over a network.
  4. No person will intentionally waist limited resources.
  5. No person is to consume food, drink, candy or gum in a computer facility.
  6. Each person will use appropriate speech and language.
  7. Each person will respect the rights of others in terms of the privacy of electronic files stored on disks and computer equipment.
  8. Each person will uphold copyright laws.
  9. Each person will follow the directions of the adult in charge of the computer facility.
  10. Each person will follow regulations posted and specific to a particular computer facility. Examples include file saving procedures, printing, resources available ... etc.
