COMPUTER LAB:

It's been an exciting year in the Computer Lab. We have received 13 new Dell computers at the beginning of the school year. All of the students have been introduced to the differences between these new computers, as compared to the Apple computers that they were previously working on. They have also had an opportunity to work on these new computers. Some software has been ordered and will soon be arriving. After installation, these new programs will be available for the students.

Earlier this year, all of the students at Vassar Road were involved in a class learning how the Amazing Writing Machine operates. This is a program that helps encourage students to write letters, stories, postcards, and journals. There are painting tools, clip art, rubber stamps, and templates for page layouts included. Several classes have spent numerous days exploring the many options in this program.

Mrs. Moys' second grade class and Mrs. Dunns' third grade class enjoyed looking at a site that compared holidays in other countries. They even heard a song sung in Swedish.

Mrs. Bernsteins' class spent several days learning where all fifty states belong, on a map of the United States. Many students can now complete the map without looking in their books.

Interesting sites on the web are being identified and are posted in the lab. Students are reminded to write them down and to look at them at home, with a parents supervision. A new site that I have found recently, gives information on dinosaurs. You can find the site at: http://www.ZoomDinosaurs.com/Subjects/dinosaurs/
