Sample Vocabulary
Words: Click on the
link to view sample words commonly
found on the New York State tests. Reviewing the meaning of each
word with your child will help them perform at a higher level on
these important tests. Regardless of your child's age or grade,
knowledge of the meaning of these words is important.
|
| |
Directions:
Each night choose several words to review.
Look up
the meaning of the words and have your child write a sentence, and
eventually stories, by using them. Review multiple meanings in
relation to the context in which the word was used. Have fun
with this as a family activity!

What are these
tests all about?
|
|
The Tests of New York State
Standards are a set of criterion-referenced tests designed to measure
students' mastery of the New York State Learning Standards for English
Language Arts and Mathematics at grades 2 -
8 as of fall 2002.
The New York State Learning
Standards, together with their Performance Indicators, represent a useful
organizational structure designed to help determine what students in New
York should know and be able to do in both English Language Arts and
Mathematics at these grade levels. |
