Correspondence secretary, Roe Donohue, reported the PTA received a thank you note from Sergeant Bellino for DARE donation and the Fishkill Plains tee shirt
Linda Kugler, PTA Council Represent, attended the February
PTA Council meeting. She reminded everyone that the PTA Council Legislative
Brunch is on March 9. Everyone is welcome to attend, but must preregister.
Kindergarten registration is March 5, 6, 7. They are discussing a central
registration at Hollowbrook. March 20 is Kindergarten readiness at 7PM
with Fishkill Plains hosting. Superintendent’s conference for the teachers
is scheduled for March 16; no school for the children. ELA testing is scheduled
for early June. It was brought up that parents of junior high and high
school aged children were having a difficult time reaching them at school
after hours.
They will look into ways to rectify this. A discussion
of transportation took place. WCSD spends the most money per child on transportation.
Most elementary school children do not walk more then .2 of a mile to their
bus stop. The transportation committee is still working on the many bus
stop issues brought to their attention by concerned parents. An incident
of a child choking on his lunch in one of the elementary schools was discussed.
It was felt by many that the lunch aides should be trained in the Heimlich
maneuver as well as CPR. Mrs. Epstein thought that Fishkill Plains should
start this immediately instead of waiting for the school board to make
this mandatory. The parents agreed. A committee for this will be formed
with Jennifer Amico and Charlene Pizzuti heading it.
Mrs. Plambeck reported some questions from the teachers about the gift certificates. To fully represent every child, one gift certificate per core class will be distributed.
Mrs. Epstein reported that the AIS staff member, Angela Aikens, is working hard to prepare the children for the next set of tests. Some of our students will represent Fishkill Plains at a Board of Education meeting.
Lori Wilhelm was not present to give a report on the programs scheduled. Mrs. Epstein stated that most programs were scheduled for the second half of the year. The Philharmonic was rescheduled due to two snow days.
Colleen Croce reported that BINGO Night was scheduled for February 23. Volunteers are needed.
Valentines for Vets went very well. The children made many and beautiful valentines that were brought and distributed to the Vets.
PARP: This year theme is based on mystery. Parents will be coming the classrooms to read for about 15 minutes/day. No one will know whom the reader until they come into the class.
Shining Stars for the month of February was the second grade. Each class wrote how they showed fairness in the classroom and will be awarded with an ice cream party.
Fundraisers will be distributed after today’s meeting. Volunteers needed to tally in 2 weeks.
March 22 will be the OPEN HOUSE. All classes are getting their classrooms ready.
Karen Lynch reported that so far that through the Box Tops for Education, she collected $295.00.
There are still a few committees needing chairpersons.
