FISHKILL PLAINS PTA MEETING MINUTES
March 20, 2002


The meeting was called to order at 7:10 p.m.

Treasurer’s Report:  Lisa Ruvo reported that she added an additional line item in our budget, “After School Programs”.

Correspondence Report:  Mrs. Wright had a baby girl & the PTA sent her a fruit basket to celebrate the happy occasion.

Council Rep. Report:  Shelly Black reported on the Council meeting.  Dr. Gersen was a speaker & spoke about the redistricting.  Also, Oak Grove started a new report card system this year & parents were unhappy about it.  Dr. Gersen agreed that Wappingers needs a new report card system.

Teacher Liaison Report:  Mrs. Plambeck reported that there is a safety issue concerning  the Kindergarten children as they dismiss to get the bus, there is no place for them to stand or sit safely.  She suggested benches that the PTA might be able to buy for them.  Our by-laws state that we cannot do that, but parents might want to hold fundraisers to raise money to buy them.

Carnival:  The Fishkill Plains carnival will be held on June 19, 2002 and we need many volunteers.  Contact Colleen Croce if interested.

PARP:  PARP is going very well and all PARP slips are due on Friday.

Shining Stars:  For April the virtue of the month will be Tolerance and it will incorporate the 3rd graders into this theme.

Programs:  Barbara Greenberg reported that the early March program “2 Young 2 Smoke” went very well & the children enjoyed it.  The next program at the end of March will be an honored visit to our school of Astronaut Kevin R. Kregel.  There is a lot of excitement in the air!

Nominating Committee:  We need 5 people for the Nominating Committee to nominate next years PTA officers.

CYO Presentation:  We also had a presentation by Jeffrey Rumph, CYO Regional Executive Coordinator,  concerning an after school program for Fishkill Plains students.  There was a survey conducted at our school & the results were very favorable to do an after school program at Fishkill Plains.
