PTA Meeting Minutes - Apr 25, 2007

Meeting was called to order at 7:35pm.  16 were in attendence.

The following PTA Board was in attendance:

Principal's Report:   Mrs. Epstein was absent.

Teacher Liaison: Mrs. Plambeck was absent.

Correspondence:  No correspondence this month.

Treasurer's Report:   Dina Finelli reported a balance of $34,216.90 is in our account.  Benches for around the playground will be paid for shortly.  This money we received from Box Tops for Education (Thank you, Karen Feldweg for getting us this money).

PTA membership: Lisa Ruvo had no updates..

School store: Fri, April 27th  there will be a school store held during lunch periods.

Talent Show: May 10th will be the performance for the kids at school.  May 4th will be the 7pm performance at Fishkill Plains.  May 11th at 7pm will be at Van Wyck.

Simon Says: This program will be presented for our school May 11st.

Wizard of Oz:  Student performance will be May 30th, 31st, June 1st  7pm at Fishkill Plains.

Moving up :  Dianne Aquilino, Lisa Ruvo, Lynn Malone, Monica Freer will organize this event for Wednesday, June 20th.

Flag Day: June 14th will be Flag Day.  Alice Doherty is organizing.

4th Grade Field Day:  Wednesday, June 13th has been reserved.

Athletic Track/Fields: It was reported that East Fishkill town will be putting in rec fields.  Wappingers District has $85,000 in the budget allocated as quoted from April 21st Poughkeepsie Journal.  PTA President will research.  May be a wetland issue holding up the track progress.

Teacher Appreciation:  Luncheon will be Wed May 9th. Kim Busche needs volunteers to serve and provide baked goods, salads...

Guest Speaker, Barbara O'Dea:  In 2 weeks Barbara will visit class rooms to discuss prevention of sexual abuse, age appropriately.  In 1973, the Center for Prevention of Child Abuse(phone: 454-0595) was created.   She visits only Fishkill Plains in the WCSD, but she sees many children each year; this program is free (funded by the county) and is publicized.  The Webetuck District had her in for a talk on myspace.com.  Some form of  abuse prevention program is a NYS requirement for all K-6th for once a year.  The Center for Prevention of Child Abuse sees an average of 300 kids per year in Dutchess County.  Colleges are actually looking at myspace.com for references.  Steve Saland is pushing a bill to require a drivers license number to try to restrict the age to have a myspace.com account.  Any child who was a victim with a filed police report has coverage for councilling for life (google Crime Victims Assistance).  Barbara presents a 3rd, 4th, 5th assembly which sounds really informative; Jo will look into it.
