Fishkill Plains Welcomes Astronaut Kevin Kregel

Fishkill Plains Elementary School had a very special visitor on Friday, March 22, 2002. NASA Astronaut Kevin R. Kregel from the Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas visited our school and our students were very excited and enthusiastic! Astronaut Kregel has been up in space four times and he has logged over 5,000 flight hours in 30 different aircraft's.

The Kindergarten, first and second grade children welcomed him by standing outside holding their red, white and blue balloons and waving the American Flag proudly. What a sight to see!

Astronaut Kregel arrived in the Dutchess County Sheriff's car with sirens roaring and lights flashing. He then proceeded to welcome and thank every student for this amazing display of honor.

A very big THANK YOU to Sherry Johnson and Barbara Greenberg to setting up Astronaut Kevin Kregel's visit! It took months of contact with NASA, endorsement letters from Assemblymen Pat Manning, Joel Miller and Congresswoman Sue Kelly. It also took approvals of agendas and arrangements of a hotel room, rental car and airplane reservations. Sherry is Program Coordinator of Kinry Road School and without her help, this would not have been possible.

When Astronaut Kregel got out of the Dutchess County Sheriff's car, Mrs. Epstein and Barbara Greenberg were there to greet him along with many happy smiling faces (our students!).
