  • Students in 5th grade will utilize current Stock Market information and become part of the stock market process. This will result in debates, data analysis, research, current event articles, technology, etc.
Yearly Project Beginning March 2009
Inventory Science 21 Kits for "Reading in the Content Area" Component (Integrates Literacy and Science)
  •  Science 21 program currently includes a component that incorporates the integration of literacy. An inventory will be conducted so that teachers have the necessary resources.
  • Mini- workshops will be provided to discuss how to utilize this component of Science 21 to foster the literacy connection.

  • Additional Big Books and text will be purchased that focus on math, science, and social studies topics to support ELA curriculum which can be incorporated into Read Alouds, Shared Reading, and Reading Workshop mini-lessons.

  •  Each grade level will discuss the daily weather in a variety of ways (graphing, predicting,
    comparing and contrasting,
    researching, etc.), thus
    reinforcing literacy skills. Activity will range according to grade level.

Evaluation Process

The Oak Grove Tri-State Committee will continue to revisit the above proposal and make the necessary adjustments as needed. Students, parents, and staff will be surveyed after the completion of specific activities, staff development, and about the validity and currency of available Critical Thinking resources. Critical Thinking Components will be discussed and revaluated by both administrators and teachers to ensure progress. During formal and informal observations administrator will make Critical Thinking a key criteria to evaluating effective instruction.

Budget

Funds have been allocated through the budget building code for the 2008-2009 school-year.
