May 5 New Files Added | Top The following files were added to this site:
Superintendent's Recommended Budget The superintendent presented his recommended budget to the Board of Education. A copy of his presentation is in the Files section to your right. The Board of Education will go over this proposal between now and April 17. On the 17th the Board will vote on the budget that it will present to the community. Budget Presentations at District Schools The superintendent announced that he will present the Board's recommended budget at four community meetings to be held at 7 PM in the schools shown below. Everyone is invited.
Dear Community Member: Each school year, the budget development process somehow becomes even more difficult. This year is shaping up to be one of the most difficult in memory not only for Wappingers but for school districts across New York State. Shrinking financial resources, the soaring and unprecedented costs for mandated employer benefits, energy and fuel coupled with unfunded State mandates equate to the need for difficult decisions to be made as we attempt to balance our program offerings and services with the responsibility for fiscal stewardship to our community. At the Board of Education meeting scheduled for March 27th, I will be presenting my recommended budget for the 2006-2007 school year. The meeting will be held in the Wappingers Junior High School auditorium and will convene at 8:15 p.m. I would like to extend to you a personal invitation to be in attendance that evening. My presentation will serve as a basis for the Board of Education's deliberation that will lead to the adoption of the budget that will ultimately be presented to our community in May. Regards, Richard A. Powell Superintendent of Schools March 13 Update | Top The Board of Education heard and discussed a presentation by Dr. Raymond Healey and the Transitional Space Committee about ways of accommodating short-term student population growth. (see the Transitional School Space Report download in the Files section to your right). At its March 20 meeting, the Board will discuss the Student Transportation Program Study, conducted by Transportation Advisory Services. March 9 Update | Top The Board of Education heard and discussed a presentation from Michele Moloney regarding New York State's contingent budget requirements for school districts (see the Contingent Budgeting download in the Files section to your right). March 6 Update | Top The Board of Education met during the morning of Saturday, March 4 to hear and discuss three presentations made by Michele Moloney, the district's Business Manager. These dealt with the program portion of the budget (the part that contains the majority of direct instructional expenses), a bus replacement plan, and a capital projects plan. The Board will next discuss budgeting at a meeting on March 9 at 7:30 PM at Wappingers JHS. The Board has scheduled an additional budget meeting for March 20 at 7:30 PM at Wappingers JHS. ![]() |
