2010 Engineering Week
John Jay Science and Technology students participated in this year's Engineering Week. Students in the above picture were given limited materials from IBM Engineers to construct a hovercraft and had to achieve a certain distance. After several attempts, students learned that the Engineering Design Process made it possible to keep researching different materials and techniques to implement new solutions to make their hovercraft achieve the desired distance.

John Jay Visits IBM
The John Jay High School Advanced Placement Biology classes were invited back for a fifth time to the East Fishkill IBM site on January 20, 2010. The purpose for the trip was to allow the students to have hands-on experience working with Scanning Electron Microscopes, Transmission Electron Microscopes, a Dual Beam Focused Ion Beam, and an Atom Probe. There was also an amazing demonstration on Liquid Nitrogen. The students learned how these machines are used in industry and in the biological field.

No Left turn from 52 into West Gate
When traveling west on Route 52 it is now officially illegal to turn left into the John Jay West Gate. The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) has studied the flow of traffic during the morning arrival and agreed that the situation is dangerous. As a result of the NYSDOT study, two signs that indicate NO LEFT TURN have been installed facing west bound traffic. If drivers continue to make left turns into the John Jay Campus using the west gate, they risk being issued a fine by law enforcement. Drivers traveling west on Route 52 can safely and legally enter using the main gate which is equipped with a left turn signal and a clearly marked turn lane.
